Random Muted Color Generator
What are Muted colors?
Muted colors are desaturated hues, achieved by adding black, white, gray, or the color's complementary shade. These subdued colors, such as sage green or dusty rose, result in a more complex and sophisticated palette, often used in designs to create a calming, vintage, or natural feel. They contrast with vibrant colors, offering a less intense, but more nuanced visual experience.
How are random Muted colors generated?
For every random generator mode on our website, we have a set of constraints specified in the OKHSL color space.
The constraints used for Muted colors are:
Color Channel (OKHSL) | Range |
---|---|
Hue | Full Range |
Saturation | 10% - 40% |
Lightness | 30% - 60% |
For random Muted colors, the Saturation range is limited to low values to produce a muted look, and the Lightness range is limited to medium values to not produce very light or very dark colors, overall producing a Muted color. The Hue is not constrained to produce a full range of Muted colors.
The set of constraints was chosen and fine-tuned based on manual testing and could be improved in the future. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to drop us a message with any suggestions!
